An Exemplary Tiffany Stained-Glass Window Is Coming to The Met

I sat down with a Met curator to chat about the museum’s new enormous, mindbogglingly detailed Tiffany window. It was created by longtime Tiffany designer Agnes Northrop, whom the curator described as “not a household name, although she should be.” I asked Curator Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen about the window’s place is the art world of its time, and she had a fascinating answer. It turns out Northrop’s work — and the iconic Tiffany imagery she influenced — shares a lot in common with Impressionism, from the choice of plants to the focus on light.
